Pearly White

We spent a lovely Sunday afternoon after church on Pearl Street in Boulder.  Sometimes it feels pretty amazing to spend a day OUT in the snow, instead of hiding from it inside.  We met Alicia & Tim at The Med, one of my new favorite restaurants, and enjoyed a long leisurely lunch full of olive oil and yummy cheeses, then Alicia and I set out to a bunch of vintage and thrift shops in the area.

I have to say it's one of the better Sundays I've had!

And it was awesome.

Elphaba

Well call her "Elphie" when we're in a hurry...

Sometimes when there's no one in the Gift Shop on Thursday nights, I peruse the stuffed animal wall to see what's new since the week before.  I'm all about the 5 senses, and with these I often pick them up and test huggability.  This is important when I have a phone order as I am tasked with choosing the perfect gift for a child that the payee will almost never see.  So it's good to know which animals have the best snug capacity.

Also, it seems to me that if I can touch each one, hold some, that somehow my wish for whatever child receives it will be strong enough in the caress that somehow they will feel better when they hug that animal.  They will not feel the pain, the nurse will have good news, they will go home soon.  They will not feel hopeless, they will never feel ugly, their hair will grow back beautiful.  The scars will disappear and their parents will stay together and they'll be better people for it in the long run.  Because it's what I want for the owner of each stuffed animal.  I will it when my hand grazes each one in a test of softness.  I think when you wish something hard enough, it can't help but come true.

Isn't that right?

Creepy

Looking at this skyline seriously threw me back to my dad's first Mac, on which I used to play the black & white "game," also referred to as the users manual.  It taught you how to "drag," "click," and "point" with 2D images of windows opening and closing.  I thought it was the coolest thing when I was...what...five?

Now, I'm happy for some color.  And a flat screen.  The wireless mouse doesn't hurt anything either.

Classic.

Winter drain pipes constantly remind me of that scene in 101 Dalmations where the little puppy goes on constantly about how everything is "froze".  Perhaps the saddest little scene in that very sad movie; I've included it to brighten your day.

Happy Monday!

Super Nintendo

For Valentine's Day, I bought Mike a refurbished SNES.  I gave it to him a day early so we could enjoy it on our lazy day!  It brought back so many memories...and we had such a blast.  It's amazing how awesome it looks on a massive tv - and how STINKIN' annoying it is when you die when you've become so adept at games in an xBox 360!  Argh!

Working Lunch

I inadvertently crashed the Valentine's Lunch that Mario, Steve, and Jen have had for years!  It also happens to be Steve's birthday, which scored us some chocolate cake.  I am now a part of a yearly tradition!  I have some great friends in the car business. :-)

Failure

This is NOT the beginning of the beautiful relationship.  This was before the first time I tried to spraypaint.  I then had to use liquid sandpaper, then regular sandpaper, and now I have to wait until the temperature creeps above 50 degrees til I can try, once again, to prime it, then paint it for real.

I've been dying to spray paint something since my parents completely revamped their house with a couple of cans themselves.  So, until I can do something with my bedroom furniture, I thought this paper holder for my work materials would be perfect.  Little did I know it would be the project from...well...you know.

Right now, it's sitting in a pile of sanded red laquer spray paint just begging to be thrown over the balcony.  Or primed.  Depending on how I feel when it gets warmer.

Otis

When I head to my Longmont dealership I make it a point to stop at my favorite used book store on Main Street.  It has creeky wood floors and old tile ceilings and rows of cheap paperbacks that call me by name.  I'm continually adding to my Stephen King collection, and I wish I would've thought to grab some C.S. Lewis.  But on my way out the back door, I looked once again at the original elevator in the old, old building.  This amazing piece of equipment is still in working order!  Beautiful.

The commercials sucked...but darts was fabulous!

Zombieland

Wholesale weeks are just awful.  Wednesday nights are when I finally see a light at the end of the tunnel.  So I was already in a good mood when Mike arrived with dinner.  Amazing organic (and extra lean) burgers with avocado and low-fat cheddar on wheat buns.  I'm trying to make it healthier than it probably was.  But when Mike came home with all this, my favorite wine, and Zombieland on DVD, it was a small slice of heaven in the Clayton household.

Reception Photogs

My parents sent me a link to the photographs at Nar & Du's Reception!  What a great night and a great weekend.  Here are a few of my favorites, but they're all located here!

Semi-charmed Life

When I was in college, one Valentine's Day (one of the many where I was single) my dad sent me a package to open on February 14th.  In it was a charm bracelete with a single heart attached on the many links.  Each year, he would add some sort of heart or love-themed charm on V-day.  Then on Christmas.  Then Easter...birthdays...new jobs...moving to Denver...marriage.  Each new phase of life and each holiday spent with family was christened with a charm.  I've had it in my Z for months, just waiting to go to Park Meadows where the ONLY James Avery is located to get the charm from my wedding put on.

You can't fully appreciate the greatness of this bracelet unless you click the photos.  There's a wine bottle for my 21st birthday, a plane for when I left Texas for Denver.  But my personal favs were given to me in a booth at Black Eyed Pea in Houston, Texas, where my mom and dad had just helped me move - again - to a small apartment for my internship at MCFA.

There's a high heels, signifying my first big girl job in my first big girl city with my first big girl rent payment.

And then, there was a cell phone - forever engraving into my memory the phone bill I'd run up looking for said apartment in said city for said job.

It's the little things...
