Stuck on you
Sorry for all the self-portraits this week. There've been some major upheavals at work - the least of which it looks like I might be changing positions next year! So exciting. Now I have hair to match! I still forget that I did it, catch myself in the mirror, and freak out a little bit. I'm sure that will pass in a couple days... *crosses fingers*

Heck. Yes.
After a full day of Thrift Shop exploration (and in Mike's case, soccer) we enjoyed a much-deserved Double Feature at Cinebarre! We saw Inglorious Basterds (which, despite not being a Tarintino fan, I thoroughly enjoyed) and then ran into the next theater for 9. Don't worry - we paid for both (we're such old, ethical farts). Enjoyed some great movies and burders, merlot and cherry pie. I seriously can't describe how much I love this movie tavern!

Icing on the Cake
My parts manager in Rapid City doesn't like cake, but he LOVES icing. So when my service manager, Judy, took me to lunch at this FANTASTIC little restaurant called Piece of Cake (where I partook in Banana nut and Chocolate cake with Peanut Butter icing and chocolate ganache - best cake I've ever had) we brought Tom back a carton of icing. After thanking me profusely, he ate it straight! This is him licking the lid and not caring that I'm taking a photo. Because he has icing. And that was all that mattered!

The Other Side of Mt. Rushmore
My dad sent me this in honor of one year passing since we met in Rapid City and had one of the best times of my life (I think his too). I thought about going to see it again today when I arrived in memorium, taking a picture for Poppy. But I think being there alone would make me too sad. So I'll post this instead!

1001 POSTS!!!!
I believe the normal mile mark for blogs and online comics is the first 1000 posts. It didn't really occur to me that 1001 Words was fast approaching that number until I was loading photos from Wyoming this week and saw the high 900s. I have been faithfully keeping up one picture a day for over 1000 days now. Approaching the 3 year mark faster than it seems possible! Fitting that today - such a wonderful Saturday - should hold the responsibility of marking 1001 Words' 1001st post! Thank you to all the people I know read this religiously - and to those I don't know do - it means the world to me to see that counter add numbers and to hear what you have to say about posts. You mean more than you'll ever know!
I met the Dean's for Mexican food in Morrison, just outside of Red Rocks Ampitheater. I'm not sure who was more excited for Syd to open her gift, me or her! Chris said he was positive she'd end up taking the train case to school Monday with every little thing in it. And Deb confessed that Syd had wanted to take me to Show & Tell (remember that?!). I introduced Deb, and invariably Syd, to the Twilight novels, so apparently I'm something of a celebrity in her class as they are also all addicted to the novels now too. "You were the catalyst!" Deb said. I'm not sure I'd be so interesting, but the fact that she wanted to take me for Show & Tell made my little heart glow even brighter than it already was watching Sydney open her train case!
"Perma-grin!" -Deb
My first Red Rocks experience. I can't believe it's taken me over 3 years to see a concert here. It's like a religious experience. I've never seen a concert in a venue that can touch this one. Beyond words! And I've found two new artist favs! I had such a blast being a part of the Dean family for an evening. Deb & Chris are amazing parents!
Taking a bow...Happy Birthday Sydney!!!
When I got home from the concert and Mike got home from Poker Night, we jumped in the car and made a midnight run to Fox & Hound for some rounds and pool!
It ended at Village Inn for 2 am chocolate chip pancakes. Tony Horton is going to come to my apartment and beat the crap out of me. And for today...it's totally worth it.

Where the Magic Happens
This vintage traincase is filled with accessories for my favorite 11 year old's birthday! Deb asked me if I wanted to go to the Jason Mraz concert at Red Rocks this Saturday, and of course I said sure! I later found out Sydney - the Birthday Girl - could've asked anyone she wanted to the concert, and she wanted to ask me. So I was going to make darn sure the present was worthy of the invite! I should've taken a photo of all the accesssory goodness that went into this thing, but I forgot in my euphoria of being loved! :-)

I think I just drooled a little. Look at that turret! And the detail on the built-in gazebo porch! Want!

Slammer
About 5 miles outside of Rawlins, WY one will start seeing signs for the Peacekeeper's Museum and the Old State Penitentary which, according to Roadside America, is a lot creepier than I originally thought. Standing on the outside. In the sun. Not behind bars. Or in a gas chamber. Sidenote, as I write this, for the first time I realize the meaning of penitentary...A place of penance. Wow, I missed that for 25 years.
Anyway. I had decided to drive through Rawlins having wizzed by on my previous trips down I-80. It ended up being well-worth the short time being slightly lost. You can still tour the jail, but I couldn't justify the $7 and the time it would take out of my drive, so I took my own tour of the grounds. It amazes me the beauty we put in buildings back then, even prisons. The haunting detail in this building, and of the grounds, will stay with me for a while.
I love abandon.

Hampton Inn, Rock Springs
I was upgraded to a King Whirlpool when I arrived in Rock Springs tonight. Which was exciting!
Except it was randomly placed RIGHT beside the bed! I walked in and just burst into laughter! Came in awfully handy when I could watch Netflix AND enjoy a whirlpool soak all at the same time...
And finally, Gone with the Wind earplugs. It is Wyoming, afterall...

Timmy Turns Thirty!
Surprise party for Tim at Sullivan's downtown! We made a night of it, snagging a room at our favorite downtown Bed & Breakfast - The Gregory Inn. Such a fantastic evening!
