LoDo

We spent most of today on 16th Street, with ZERO pictures to show for it. Between the Paramount Cafe lunch, myriad mall rides, "Babylon A.D.", appreciating the architecture and first-date reminiscing, and some crazy black girl screamin' at the top of her lungs (none of which I could repeat, mind you), both of us completely spaced it. So I'm using the Gregory House photos instead!

Forest fire at thirty thousand feet

I had a dream while I was sprawled out asleep during my flight from BOI to DIA. There was a forest fire, and I took a photo of it. Needless to say, when I checked my camera (the dream seemed so lifelike!) arriving in Denver, I was slightly stunned to find: a photo of a forest fire. Lots of those happening lately. Wish I'd been awake to appreciate it!

View from above

Boise has a fantastic downtown. Although all the stores close at 8 pm, there's a movie theater, an Urban Outfitters, a PF Chang's, Ann Taylor, and tons of unique shops and restaurants, even a dinner theater. I'm awaiting fall. The trees in this town explode with the season - reds and oranges, yellows and burgundies. The sun shines through them making them sparkle against the blue skies and around the humble buildings. Art work is everywhere. I love staying down here. Sometimes I wish I could live in the "skinny lofts" they're building across the street. Tres chic.

Fun Land

I was through with work earlier than expected today in Idaho Falls. So I got in my car, picked a place on the city map that I wanted to go, got to the intersection, and then turned the complete opposite direction. I have no idea why; because I could I think. But it was invigorating!

I drove through "Historic Downtown," finding some fascinating architecture as well as a crazy awesome Junior High school. I got lost in neighborhoods I didn't even know existed, with houses ranging from the 1800s to the 1970s. I've never seen such a conglomeration of different types and eras of housing. It was absolutely fascinating. And many of them I couldn't even capture on camera because I just couldn't stop!

Then, I ended up driving past their humble little zoo. I decided I'd rather just keep driving, and ended up finding this little gem of a simpler time lost: Funland!

My favorite find, however, had to be this incredibly industrial fountain smack dab in the middle of a beautiful green park.

When I first saw it from the road, I thought there was litter all over it, what looked like white papers flying around it. Upon closer inspection, I realized: it's bubbles! Clumps and clumps of bubbles! The fabulous wind billowing through the trees and around the open areas and through my hair was picking up the resulting bubbles at the end of the fountain and spitting them in all directions. It only took a few seconds once that epiphany hit that I just stood there in delight and laughed. Laughed and laughed and laughed!

So many people to watch...never enough time.

Probably my favorite scenery in Deadwood...all the creepy manequins dressed up as western call girls. Such cheese!

Sunday's tour of Deadwood, SD.

Note to self - Mustangs are NOT off-road worthy!

I had to show Dad the best view of the town...from Mt. Moriah Cemetary.

The Journey Museum:

Train seat! You totally turned this wheel to make the scenery go by. It was AWESOME.

Smokey & the Wetterlings...feelin' hot hot hot!

Another moment 40 years in the making...

Mount Rushmore walking trail.

Such a good shot.

Ditto.

The ORIGINAL North by Northwest fiming spot!!! This is where Eva Marie "shoots" Carey Grant! So classic. Go watch the movie, seriously.

Breath-taking:

Not gonna lie, the lighting ceremony brought tears to my eyes.

Lost

Poppy in the Mustang on the way out of Rapid.

When we still knew where we were!

Porcupine - "Home of the Quills". When we started realizing we had no freakin' clue where we were.

After a 2.5 hour "detour" we finally made it to the Badlands! My dad stood in this very spot exactly 40 years ago.

Impending kitsch:

Bossom buddies...

It's like poker, Alice!
